TAMPA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (TPA)
A modest drive over the beautiful Sunshine Skyway Bridge opens up a world of air travel possibilities at the Tampa International Airport. Served by over twenty major air carrier airlines, and four regional airlines, the Tampa International Airport is a well-designed, efficient airport that boasts striking architecture, stellar dining options, and rotating art installations.
ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (MCO)
Just over two hours drive, the Orlando International Airport is a good option for downtown Sarasota residents who are seeking to fly specific routes or price shop a trip. The airport serves as a hub for Silver Airways, as well as a focus city for Frontier Airlines, JetBlue Airways, and Southwest Airlines, and as such, prices can be lower for certain routes. The 2nd busiest airport in the state, Orlando International Airport also is a major international gateway for the mid Florida region, with flights by foreign air carriers.
ST. PETE-CLEARWATER INT'L AIRPORT (PIE)
Though most scheduled airline traffic in the Tampa Bay Area uses Tampa International Airport, St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport remains a destination for low-cost carriers and is a focus city for Las Vegas-based carrier Allegiant Air. Because it is less busy than Tampa, St. Pete-Clearwater is frequently used by pilots of private planes and executive jets flying to the Tampa Bay Area.
SOUTHWEST FLORIDA INT'L AIRPORT (RSW)
About an hour south of downtown Sarasota, the Southwest Florida International Airport is a single-runway airport in south Fort Myers that services much of Southwest Florida. With fifteen passenger airlines flying to an assortment of major cities domestic and abroad, this is yet another air travel option for downtown Sarasota residents.
PUNTA GORDA AIRPORT (PGD)
Just under an hour away from downtown Sarasota, the Punta Gorda Airport has mainly been used by single engine and small jet aircraft, but has recently seen more scheduled airline service. The airport is home to the Florida International Air Show, an annual event which has featured various military demonstration teams, including the United States Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron, the “Blue Angels.”
